Online tests: competency and numeracy
Prepare and develop your skills by some of the activities below:
- Get a feel for the tests you’re going to do – read up on methods of assessment and try some example questions.
- Can you come up with solutions to problems? Practise by doing crosswords or number puzzles, and try to consider several different angles to any problem you face.
- If you are likely to be presented with numerical data to analyse, it’s worth reminding yourself how to do basic calculations such as percentages and ratios.
- Read the financial press and specifically look at tables and graphs and the analysis of these.
- Practise sharpening your mental arithmetic.
- Work steadily through the test as quickly and accurately as possible.
- Avoid spending too long on any particular question.
- Don’t feel disheartened if you feel you have done badly on a particular question – move on to the next one.
