I joined RBS in September 2007, in Major Corporate Banking in London. Now, I work within the Corporate and Institutional Banking team. Our role is to work with key clients to originate and execute complex and often highly-leveraged transactions, often involving mergers and acquisitions. My principal responsibility is to analyse the market so I can develop transactional opportunities for clients.
The most enjoyable part of my job is engaging in discussions with Finance Directors and CFOs about their business strategy. Helping them shape and execute what we plan together provides a real sense of achievement, especially considering the short time I’ve been in my position. I had similar feelings the first time I made a pitch presentation to a client, when I participated in a two-hour long discussion with the FD of a FTSE 250 company. This was amazingly rewarding, and I can’t think of too many other jobs where you get that exposure after only six months.
I’m comfortable with so much responsibility because the working environment at RBS is welcoming and friendly. It’s been really helpful to build a network of current and previous graduates, all of whom have been keen to help wherever possible.
The atmosphere in the office is especially interesting at the moment. We’re all working extremely hard, continuing to help clients carry out complex deals, whilst ensuring we provide special attention to help protect the Bank’s position. Either way, there’s a real team spirit and hunger to drive the business forwards.
