I work in the Lombard Head Office in Strategy and Business Improvement as part of the Learning and Development team.  Currently, I’m involved in five key areas: graduate/business class and the fast track scheme; culture and climate, including leadership development; talent; staff surveys; and recognition schemes. Working here has given me excellent exposure to senior management, as well as outstanding general experience in banking and business.

One of the best things about RBS is that it’s a meritocracy, and I particularly value the commitment to developing young talent.  After the first year on the Lombard Graduate programme, you can apply to join the ‘Gold Talent’ programme for future leaders, which I am proud to be part of.  It rewards achievement by giving even better opportunities to excel and meet important clients and colleagues.

To me, ‘Make it happen’ is about taking responsibility for your career and really driving your own progression.  I’ve not waited for anyone to give me a push in the right direction, but have taken every chance to challenge myself in order to improve.  If you show the right attitude to work, the business will give you every support you need, so you can really thrive.

Because RBS rewards top performers, the culture is quite competitive, but this in no way affects the team ethos.  People are very supportive in helping one another achieve their goals, and take real pride in the success of their colleagues.

I particularly enjoy the company of the people I work with and the buzz we share when we come up with new ideas or approaches.

The biggest testament I can give to how happy I am at RBS is that as a result of my experience and progress, my brother has changed careers and joined too!
