The opportunities to develop a successful long-term career were what initially attracted me to the RBS group. I also knew that they had a well structured training scheme for graduates, which would help me achieve my own personal goals. I applied for a position as an analyst because I didn’t have any relevant IT or business experience, but wanted a role that would give me exposure to all aspects of the business.

As a Group Technology & Technology Integration Business Analyst, I work within the IT Development team for Coutts & Co, who support the IT systems that the Coutts business uses for their day-to-day operations. My job involves gathering requirements from the business in order to update or create IT systems that would suit their needs. I speak to business stakeholders, find out what they need the systems to do, and then speak to the technology team to see how it can be done.

Since joining RBS I’ve had many opportunities to develop my skills. I’ve already gained an ISEB Diploma in Business Systems Development, I’ve been on several external training courses, and I’ve attended other training courses in areas such as project management and testing.

As a new joiner in such a vast organisation, the biggest challenge for me has been knowing who to speak to when I need something. But everyone is very relaxed, friendly and willing to help. I really feel like I’m in control of my future here at RBS, and I’m confident that if and when I decide to change roles there will be a suitable opportunity for me here.
