Tax
Due to an overwhelming number of applications our Coutts & Co. Tax programme is now closed. If you would like to be considered should any places become available at a later date, please complete our expression of interest form. You can also pre-register for our 2010 programme.
Getting to grips with the specifics
This programme is designed to develop the wide range of technical, business and personal skills you’ll need to advise our diverse client base on the tax challenges facing them. You’ll start with an in-depth induction covering our business, the Specialist Advice department and the Private Banking industry in general.
Year one
During your first twelve months, you’ll learn about the specifics of the UK tax system, whilst working on your own client allocation. You will also become familiar with our Trust and Estate Planning team, and you are likely to spend a period of time on secondment to this team. At the same time, you’ll develop both your verbal and written communication skills, and get a solid grounding in tax-specific software packages.
Year two
In the second year, you’ll build on what you’ve learned with work of increasing complexity. You’ll also study for your Association of Taxation Technician (ATT) exams. After completing these exams you will be encouraged to progress to your Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) exams, with the aim of becoming a Chartered Tax Adviser and, ultimately, a highly skilled and valued Tax Manager.
What we’ll be looking for
Although we’ll accept a good degree in any discipline, the Tax Programme does require an A level or Scottish Higher (or equivalent) in a numerate subject such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Statistics.
For either programme, some work experience would be an advantage. You’ll also need the intellectual stamina to gain a professional qualification while serving your clients and developing your career.
