Global reach, global influence
The Royal Bank of Scotland Group is one of the world’s leading financial services groups.  Group Internal Audit (GIA) sees it all – giving you the chance to take a broader focus and make a genuine impact across the whole business. GIA has a key role to play in ensuring that risk management and control processes operate effectively. To achieve this, we have over 600 staff in 30 countries delivering a high-quality audit service. With locations from London, Edinburgh and Dublin to Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Singapore, India and Rhode Island. Group Internal Audit (GIA) is far more than just an ordinary internal auditing practice.

Minimising risk, maximising opportunities
Group Internal Audit (GIA) works across the Group to identify and assess business risks, and test the controls that are in place to manage or mitigate them. We identify control weaknesses and their root cause and report back to senior management. Additionally, we help management to understand the risks to their businesses to enable them to make calculated decisions that balance risk and reward. This gives us an enormous variety of work and a unique perspective into the Group. For example, we are heavily involved in the integration of new acquisitions and work on many major change programmes both in the UK and internationally. That scale and scope of work, added to the sheer diversity of the Group, makes GIA a truly exciting environment. The new enlarged Group, with its enhanced product, customer and geographic reach, presents significant opportunities but also brings the potential for new or increased risks to emerge. More than ever, GIA will need to actively identify, assess and help management address these risks.

All-round business experience
That’s why the GIA programme aims to help you build an all-round business skill set. Over the course of the two-year programme you’ll have the opportunity to test your skills auditing different parts of the Group. This rotational aspect of the programme will enable you to see audit from every angle. You’ll travel to various locations, tackle problems head on, begin to establish networks and build up a bigger picture of our diverse business. Our work can focus on any area, from the Group as a whole to an individual operating unit or process; from trading desks in our Global Markets business to our Treasury department; from IT applications to cash centres; from our branch networks to Group people processes.

The exposure you want, the support you need
It can get pretty hectic. You’ll be expected to absorb large amounts of information and learn quickly. At the same time, you’ll be expected to study for your professional qualifications. But throughout the programme you’ll have the support of a business coach and access to an incredible range of learning support materials. You’ll also get the broadest possible exposure to our business and, by the end of the programme, you’ll be a high-potential employee with a wide range of career development opportunities.  While it is up to you to steer the direction of your programme, we will support you to study for a professional qualification that will help you progress in Audit.  On top of this, throughout the programme you’ll have access to a range of learning and development opportunities.

What we’re looking for
The ability to work well with a wide variety of people is essential in GIA. That’s why we look for people who have great interpersonal skills and can ideally show this through some kind of work experience. You’ll need to be able to hold your own with key stakeholders at every level in the business. We also like to see a flair for problem solving and a high level of numeracy. A 2:1 degree is essential, but this can be in any discipline.
