Identifying, managing and controlling risk
There will always be threats to the success of an organisation. Threats to its performance, its reputation or its future success. RBS Risk Management identifies, evaluates and puts in place strategies to deal with those threats so that the Group can deliver fast, effective and profitable services for our customers, in a safe environment.

4,000 people at work across the Group
The team is made up of more than 4,000 people – talented professionals working across the areas of Credit, Market, Regulatory, Operational and Insurance Risk. We work collaboratively with all divisions to get a clear understanding of each, what it does and the risks to its success.

Huge challenges. Huge rewards
We take all that information and much more, and use it to develop strategies that minimise risk, add value and deliver the business objectives. Then we implement those strategies and subject them to continuous review and enhancement. It’s a huge challenge – but it provides you with invaluable learning opportunities across the Group.

Two years. Four placements
Over the course of two years, you’ll spend time in each of the main Risk business areas, take on projects of increasing complexity, make decisions of increasing importance and, along the way, build rock-solid business relationships.

Increasing complexity
With each new project, two of which could be outside your home country, you’ll be expected to deliver more. But each one will also give you more, more learning opportunities, contact with more senior members of the Group and a greater view of the opportunities available to people with talent and more than a little determination.

A fantastic learning platform
You’ll find yourself learning a lot on the job. But there’ll also be a huge range of online resources available to support your development. Our Risk Academy, the home of learning and development for the Risk Function will be available to you as soon as you start, the Risk Academy is not just about training courses, it offers a wide range of learning interventions from e-learning to on-the-job training. You will be assigned a Business Coach to advise you on these learning opportunities and to guide you throughout the two-year programme. On top of that, you’ll have an individual learning budget, which can be used towards the cost of studying for appropriate professional qualifications or accreditation. Everything is geared up to help you learn and progress as quickly as possible.

Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for people who can slot into many different teams and build solid business relationships from the word go. Communication and interpersonal skills are all important. We’d also like to see some kind of work experience that shows you’re able to set goals and achieve them.
