The frontline of banking
RBS UK, Regional Markets is the largest division in the RBS group. It includes many of the most recognisable banking brands on the High Street and the internet – names like NatWest, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Coutts & Co, The One account and Direct Line Financial Services. Together, they make us one of the largest providers of banking and investment products to personal and small business customers in the UK.
Making an impact far and wide
Our products include market-leading current accounts, savings, loans, mortgages and award-winning insurance. We’re also the second largest issuer of credit cards in the UK and have the largest network of bank branches and ATMs. We go to extraordinary lengths to understand our customers and provide them with innovative products and exceptional customer service. And, for that, we depend on the expertise and integrity of our Retail Business Leaders.
Future leaders
The idea of this programme is for you to build up an overall picture of RBS UK, Regional Markets, understand their importance in a fast-growing organisation like ours and prepare you for a leadership role within the Retail Banking sector.
What the programme involves
For the first six months, you could be based in any one of 1,640 NatWest or 650 Royal Bank of Scotland branches across the UK. During that time you’ll get to grips with a variety of projects and gain a broad understanding of how our branch network operates, as well as our wider Retail business. The next 18-months will consist of more specific work, tailored to your own aspirations and development needs.
Practical experience and a professional qualification
The experience you’ll gain is very much like running your own business – you’ll have the chance to get involved in product launches, project management, coaching and developing teams and assisting in the running of one of our branches. You’ll also get to study towards a professional qualification with the Chartered Institute of Bankers. It’ll be hard work, certainly, and we’ll expect you to steer your own development. But you’ll be encouraged to take advantage of the wide range of support available and stretch yourself on a variety of projects.
What we’ll be looking for
This is a great programme for resilient people who enjoy the challenge of meeting tight deadlines and ambitious targets in a constantly evolving customer-driven environment. Representing the RBS group, excellent people skills are a must – you’ve also got to be a great listener, an influential communicator and a real team-player. We’ll also expect a good academic record, although the subject of your degree discipline is really not important.
